Hurghada started as a fishing village and is now one of the Egypt’s main resorts for tourism and home for around 60.000 resident people. Around 60 km, in the south of Hurghada, the village Safaga offers the famous old port of Philotera, built by King Ptolemy II in the 3rd century B.C. In the north of Hurghada, near an old Roman harbor, is the resort village of El Gouna located. El Gouna is built from scrap in a modern Egyptian style. El Gouna grew up to a special touristic place with international hotels & resorts, an own hospital, schools, private airport, romantic harbor, a lot of shops and an old styled handcraft bazar.
